Protoplanetary disks and exoplanets in scattered light
High-contrast imaging now enables us to detect gas giant exoplanets and resolved signatures of planet formation in protoplanetary disks. Tomas Stolker carries out observational and numerical investigations of protoplanetary disks and self-luminous exoplanets for which high-contrast imaging, scattered light, polarisation and radiative transfer modeling play a central role. He makes use of SPHERE, a dedicated imaging instrument at the Very Large Telescope in Chile.
