|Date||5 October 2017|
What do you aim to do after your PhD or postdoc at API? Like most other researchers you are employed on temporary contracts. You have proved yourself as an astronomer and there is a good outlook for Dutch astronomers. What about your options other than academic research? How do you arrive at the decisions that determine your next step as a PhD graduate? The options may be far more extensive than you may imagine, especially in today’s world. How do deal with career orientation and decision making? Let’s discuss!
Chiat Cheong is scientist by training (PhD in Biomedical Sciences). Since 2009 her focus has been supporting scientists to make the most of their PhD Power. The struggles in her own career transition as a postdoc and the experiences gained at PCDI equipped her to provide guidance to research staff facing career decision moments. At UvA-FNWI she established Career Service to run local and accessible career events and to offer individual consultancy: all specifically meant for temporary research staff. Chiat combines her work at UvA with entrepreneurship (Qia Consultancy & Training). Chiat is happily married and mother of two lovely daughters.
