    Profile

    Antonia Rowlinson is an Assistant Professor at the University of Amsterdam and Junior Scientist at ASTRON (The Dutch Institute for Radio Astronomy). After completing her PhD in gamma-ray bursts at the University of Leicester in 2011, she moved to the University of Amsterdam for a 3 year postdoctoral position and moved into the field of radio transients. After this she spent one year in a postdoctoral fellow position at the Australian CSIRO in their Astronomy and Space Science group. She returned to the Netherlands in 2016 to work in a joint position at the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy and ASTRON.

    Research and Teaching

    Her research focuses on finding and studying explosive transient sources using low frequency radio telescopes, including LOFAR (the LOw Frequency ARray, Netherlands) and the MWA (Murchison Widefield Array, Australia). She plays a major role in the development of automated transient detection pipelines and is leading the development of a rapid response observational mode for LOFAR. In addition to searching for unexpected sources, she studies the electromagnetic counterparts of neutron star binary mergers and in the radio follow-up of gravitational wave detections. She teaches the Honours Bachelors course "Modern Astronomy" and co-ordinates the Masters course "Open Problems in Modern Astrophysics".
