Because the solar eclipse will be just before sunset, it will be difficult to see it from the Science Park campus. Therefore we will be doing a sidewalk astronomy event in collaboration with the OBA at the Oosterdokskade. We will bring telescopes and eclipse glasses and there will be a lecture by exoplanet researcher Elise Koo.
Event details of Partial solar eclipse
Date
12 August 2026
Time
19:15 -21:00
Location
OBA Oosterdok

From the central library at the Oosterdokskade, there's a nice low horizon towards the north west and since we already have a very successful collaboration with the OBA loaning out telescopes, teaming up for this event was a no-brainer. The library will also be handing out free API eclipse glasses the coming weeks!

Around the start of the eclipse, exoplanet researcher Elise Koo will give a lecture. If the weather is good enough to see the eclipse we will bring telescopes and eclipse glasses to the sidewalk in front of the building. If the weather is very poor, a livestream will be viewed on an extra large screen.
