The Bachelor programme Physics and Astronomy is taught by staff of the Anton Pannekoek Institute for Astronomy, the Institute of Physics, and the Kortweg-de Vries Institute for Mathematics.
UvA bachelor students perform their first astronomical observations on the roof
The first year astronomy practice, where students get their first experience in astronomical observation.

Part of the teaching staff is also associated with the Liberal Arts and Sciences programme of the Amsterdam University College, taught in English. The majority of courses are in Dutch, while some are in English. More information can be found by following the link given below.

Astronomy courses in the Bachelor

The first-year course “Sterrenkunde 1” is compulsory for all students enrolled in the BSc Physics and Astronomy. It gives a broad overview of astrophysics, from the basics of light, motion and gravity to the full range of astronomical objects and phenomena we encounter in the cosmos; from the birth of stars and planets to the evolution and fate of our universe. In addition there are several astronomy electives, both courses and projects, that go deeper into the various subjects covered in Sterrenkunde 1. An overview is given below.
