Professor Sera Markoff of the Anton Pannekoek Institute (API) and Gravitation and AstroParticle Physics Amsterdam (GRAPPA), of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), has been appointed as a new member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen, KHMW).
The KHMW is the oldest learned society in the Netherlands, devoted to ‘the promotion of science’ in its broadest sense. The Society was founded in 1752, and grants around 140 prizes each year, ranging from prizes for secondary school projects, through thesis prizes to professional oeuvre prizes. The Society also regularly organises lectures and other meetings.
Markoff: "It is great to become part of such a historic organisation that focuses on, among other things, science communication, as this is one of my key interests outside of black hole research"
